Begins September 12th In today’s world, life as a teenager can be challenging, stressful and overwhelming. Yoga for Teens classes provides techniques to reduce everyday stresses through relaxation and breath work, along with harnessing strength and flexibility through challenging, sometimes interactive yoga poses. The class also aims to foster a sense of community and self expression, empowering the students with the skills and confidence to help them manage their own complex lives. What does the Yoga for Teens class entail? Every yoga class will cover a range of yoga poses (asanas) from yoga flows to static poses, some breathwork (pranayama) and of course plenty of wind down time to centre and relax. Some weeks there will be some craft or artwork involved as a form of interactive play or mindfulness / meditation. Classes aim to cultivate gratitude and calm along with a compassionate attitude in teens that will serve them in every part of their lives. Beginners are always welcome, and we will regularly go through the yoga fundamentals, in a non-competitive, kind and supportive environment. Students will gain strength, coordination, flexibility and a still, focused mind, helping them feel empowered and supported in their lives. What issues can Yoga for Teens help with? Teenagers face a huge amount of issues in their lives. Some of the main issues are anxiety, pressure (peer / academic / social media / changes in body / false ideals & unrealistic expectations), insomnia and sleep issues, mood swings and irritability, fatigue, tummy issues, headaches, the list goes on. Yoga is proven to help with all of these issues while also bringing about a deep inner confidence and compassion towards self and with that, towards others. “Yoga for reducing teen stress is an effective method. A recent study published in Frontiers in Psychiatry found that yoga can help reduce stress and anxiety in teen girls. The study, which researchers conducted at the University of California, Los Angeles, found that yoga can help reduce rumination (a type of thinking that leads to negative emotions) and can also help increase positive emotions and body satisfaction.” With Michelle Constadine
